Meet Karen M. Rogers
I’m one of the rare “California natives:” fifth generation! I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with my bachelor’s degree in communications in June of 1981 and worked as a medical script writer and then with special events for the L.A. Zoo for several years. While I attended graduate school I worked in desktop publishing. I graduated from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena with my master’s degree in marriage, family, and child counseling in November of 1997.
Early in my career as a psychotherapist I began working in the areas of substance abuse and HIV in Los Angeles county. I moved with my husband in 1998 from Pasadena to the central coast, where we settled in Los Osos. I worked for/with SLO County Drug & Alcohol Services from 1999 until 2008.
It was with D&AS that I became aware that I had an ability and a love of teaching. I was trained in Stephen R. Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Successful People and taught the practice to over 1,000 county employees. I taught substance abuse counselor certification and parenting classes during my association with the county and continued teaching parenting classes through SLO Coastal Unified Service District until 2010.
I was in private practice in San Luis Obispo for several years until moving to Atascadero in 2013. In February of 2024 we relocated to Springfield, Oregon on the McKenzie River.
My professional pursuits since first taking Reiki in 2005 have culminated in a soulful practice that invites clients to remember who they are beyond personality and physicality. I think of myself as a “doula of spirit,” using multiple modalities to invite clients to a deeper understanding and love for themselves. The sacred practices of Reiki, of Aquatic Integration, and of Lomi massage allows us access to our inner healer and reminds us that there is always more to give and to receive.
